2022 Annual General Meeting
President’s Message
Welcome to the 2022 Annual General Meeting
We sputtered to a start in 2022 with a few covid interruptions but I feel finally have things going well now. I hope we can continue to move forward.
In 2022 as a group, we performed 858 community volunteer hours. This up by a little over 200 hours from 2021. We continue to look after the Napanee Library gardens and at the gardens here the church. St Patrick’s Church has yet to charge us for rent for the meeting hall because of the work we have completed. Congratulations and thank to everyone who contributed.
In 2022 we had 53 paid members up from the previous year. Currently as of Dec 14th we have 20 paid members. There are rumblings that OMAFRA will reduce the membership requirement for Horticultural Societies from 50 to 25 and still qualify for the OMFRA grant.
In August we had a car to the Frankford area to visit 2 very interesting but different nurseries. After the tour lunch was enjoyed in downtown Frankford. This is our summer first car tour in several years do to covid.
We are continuing to look for high quality speakers for our meetings. Up coming soon… in January we have Leslie Milbury speaking on how to take pictures of flowers. In February we have a representative from the Invasive Weeds Council of Ontario speaking, of course, on invasive weed species. Both these meetings are via Zoom as the directors decided to go to Zoom for the winter months. In March we have Debb Poole from Connon Nurseries in Trenton speaking on how to grow Hydrangeas. In March we are returning to in person meetings.
Two good news items for 2023. We have been asked by The County of Lennox and Addington to rehab and look after the heritage Ladies flower garden at the Allan MacPherson House. The Society’s Harold Bentley and Iris Perron were instrument in starting this garden many years ago. I recent years it has fallen into chaos. I look forward to renewing the garden and our relationship with The County. And finally, the Napanee Community in Blooms Committee is restarting the Napanee Garden Expo on April 1st, 2023, after a 3-year Covid break. The society will be in attendance.
I look forward to a great 2023 with the Lennox and Addington Horticultural Society and Garden Club
Merry Christmas Everyone, Brad.
